How to choose a yoga trainer at home: a safety checklist

Inviting a trainer into your home means checking more than flexibility. Use this checklist to choose a qualified, trustworthy yoga trainer — and to know what a good first session looks like.

How to choose a yoga trainer at home: a safety checklist

1. Recognised certification

Ask which certificate the trainer holds. In India, the Yoga Certification Board (YCB) under the Ministry of AYUSH certifies yoga professionals; many trainers also hold internationally recognised teacher-training certificates (for example a 200-hour course). For pregnancy, therapy or cancer care, look for additional specialist training.

2. Identity verification

A trainer who comes to your home should have their identity verified by the company sending them. At YogOne, every trainer’s ID and certificates are checked before they teach, and their experience is reviewed on a call.

3. A proper health intake

  • Your goals (strength, weight, stress, flexibility, pain relief).
  • Medical history — surgeries, blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, injuries, pregnancy.
  • Medicines and anything your doctor has told you to avoid.
  • How active you are today.

4. The first session

  • Starts with a short assessment of posture, mobility and breath.
  • Offers modifications instead of pushing you into deep poses.
  • Explains why each practice is there.
  • Ends with a plan for the coming weeks.

5. Practical things that matter

  • Punctuality and clear rescheduling rules.
  • The option of a female trainer if you prefer.
  • Someone to call if the trainer isn’t the right fit — you should be able to switch.
  • Transparent pricing before you commit.
